About Us

Welcome to Blackfin — where fishing and fine art meet on the sunlit coastlines of the Northern Territory.

We’re passionate fishers based in Darwin, NT, who turned a love for the ocean into something lasting. Each gyotaku print is a tribute to the fish we’ve caught, the waters we’ve explored, and the saltwater stories that shape our lives.

What started as a way to preserve the memory of a great catch has grown into a collection of one-of-a-kind artworks — created by hand, directly from real fish, using traditional Japanese printing techniques.

About Gyotaku
Gyotaku (gee-oh-tah-koo) is a traditional Japanese art form that began over 100 years ago. Originally used by fishermen to record their catch, it involves applying ink to a real fish and pressing it onto rice paper to create a detailed impression.

At Blackfin Prints, we honour this technique — embracing its imperfections and the story each fish tells through the print.
